Ligenesis proposed for a second prize in the 2021 Hubei Science and Technology Progress Awards
The provincial recognition arrived alongside national policy and legal support for domestic medical-equipment innovation.
On 4 January, the Hubei Department of Science and Technology published the proposed recipients of the 2021 provincial science and technology awards. Ligenesis was proposed for a second prize in the Hubei Science and Technology Progress Awards.
The award recognises contributions to technical research, development, innovation, application and industrialisation. It arrived as national policy increasingly supported the development and adoption of domestically produced medical equipment.
Ten national departments also issued the 14th Five-Year Plan for the Medical Equipment Industry, structured around seven priority fields, five major tasks, five special actions and six safeguards. The plan targets core technologies, resilient supply chains and wider application of innovative equipment.
The revised Science and Technology Progress Law, effective from 1 January 2022, also states that government procurement should purchase domestic innovative products and services when they meet functional and quality requirements, including products entering the market for the first time.
With medical-laser work dating to 1987, Ligenesis will build on its quality systems, clinical applications and recognised Nd:YAG, CO₂ and laser-fibre technology to support the continued development of China’s medical-laser industry.
